Small Shaker Lidded Pail from the collection of John Roberts
Small Shaker Lidded Pail. Stave construction with 2 wooden hoops and fingers secured by old nails and staple. Wire bail with turned wooden handle. Round bail plates. Bucket measures 6 3/4" tall and the lid is almost 6" wide. The Shakers were involved in cooperage since the beginning of their communal period in the 1780's. The principal part of this business was making tubs and pails for both Believers and the World. This is an excellent example. Provenance: Willis Henry Auctions auction from Shaker Farm, The John Roberts Collection. Please contact us with any questions or for additional pictures.
